Wildlife
You won’t need to go far to find wildlife at Erisgeir, and sometimes they come to you! Deer, bats and hen harriers are regular visitors, and we have a nesting buzzard that returns year after year.
Birds
Over 40 different species of bird, including golden eagles, sea eagles and hen harriers, can be found nearby the cottage during the summer. Don’t forget to pack your best binoculars, wellies and favourite field guide!
Hen Harriers
The hen harrier is an endangered bird that was heavily persecuted because of it’s effect on the grouse population. In Scotland the population is estimated at 529 territorial pairs, which represents a 15% increase since 2016, according to the RSPB.
You can find out more about the hen harriers, and what you can do to help, at the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds’ page on Hen Harriers
