Wildlife

You won’t need to go far to find wildlife at Erisgeir, sometimes they come to you! Deer and hen harriers are known to pay us a visit from time to time and are residents of the area, as well as the occasional hedgehog.

Birds

Over 40 different species of bird, including golden eagles, sea eagles and hen harriers, can be found nearby the cottage during the summer. Don’t forget to pack your best binoculars, wellies and favourite field guide!

Hen Harriers

The hen harrier is an endangered bird that was heavily persecuted because of it’s effect on the grouse population. There is now only 617 known pairs in the entirety of the UK. The RSPB recommends urgent action to be able to preserve these beautiful creatures.

You can find out more about the hen harriers, and what you can do to help, at the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds’ page on Hen Harriers
